Leadership of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Military Administration held an online meeting with representatives of FamilySearch (USA, State of Utah) – an international organization engaged in digitizing and preserving historical documents.

Topics of discussion included further cooperation in digitizing archival materials and preserving the historical heritage of Khmelnytskyi region. This meeting was attended by the Head of the RMA Sergii Tiurin, the Deputy Head of the RMA Volodymyr Yuriev, Director of the State Regional Archives Kateryna Burduvalis, advisor to the Head of the RMA, as well as FamilySearch strategists Patrick Monson and Greg Nelson.

Sergii Tiurin, Head of the RMA, expressed his gratitude to the representatives of FamilySearch for their contribution to the preservation of historical documents.
“We recognize the importance of America’s support and contribution to our struggle, and we are grateful for all the assistance received from the United States of America. Thank you for preserving archival information ‒ future generations will see and appreciate this contribution. I believe that one day our archives will record a historical document about Ukraine’s victory and the establishment of a just peace,” said the regional leader.

During the meeting, Sergii Tiurin also suggested launching a new project to help American citizens trace their family ties to ancestors who lived in the Khmelnytskyi region.

Collaboration with FamilySearch is an important step in preserving history, strengthening international ties, and advancing archival work. Since 2022, the State Archive of the Khmelnytskyi region, in cooperation with FamilySearch, has been implementing a project to digitize documents from the National Archival Fund of Ukraine. More than 145,000 storage units (58 collections) have already been digitized, amounting to over 4.6 million digital images. Due to this work, the archive is ranked 3rd in Ukraine in 2024 in terms of document digitization rates.

Together, we build the future by preserving the memory of the past!
